Your life is measured by moments, not milestones

We’ve been taught to love goals. Smash ‘em. Chase ‘em. Post about ‘em. And yeah, goals can be great; they make us feel like we’re moving forward, getting things done, and being “successful” (whatever the heck that actually means).
But if we’re not careful, life can quickly turn into one ole’ big to-do list. Tick a box, set a new goal. Achieve something, immediately ask what’s next? You end up so focused on the next milestone, you forget to actually… live?
So perhaps instead of focusing on what you want to accomplish, you start focusing on what you want to experience?
Maybe instead of counting how many books you read this year, you cared more about which ones made you cry in public or stay up way too late? And instead of obsessing over how many kilometres you ran or how fast your pace was, you simply ran for the high?
We’re not saying you should drop all your goals and give up on your dreams. You can still want big things from your life. We’re really just trying to remind you to keep enjoying yourself along the way.
Because when you focus on experiences, it’s easier to start noticing the stuff that really matters in this one precious life. Like the dinners with friends that go on way past bedtime. Or the music that drags you onto the dance floor even when you swore you were not dancing tonight. Or those autumn mornings when everyone else is still asleep, and the sun streams through the curtains in a way that makes the whole room feel a little magical.
None of these moments are showing up on your productivity tracker… but they’re the ones you’ll remember most.
So perhaps it’s time to lean into experiences more; the messy, funny, unplanned ones that turn into the best stories.
Because at the end of it all, it won’t be the goals you’ll look back on. It’ll be the stories (you know, the ones that usually start with “I wasn’t even going to go out that night BUT…”) and the people you experience life with.
With love and hope for more moments you can’t measure but will never forget,
