Fancy a bit of stargazing? Australia’s got some top spots that are nothing short of stellar.
Ever look up into the night sky and wish you could see the stars twinkling above you? They’re not gone, we promise. They’re just hiding behind our urban lights.

Venture beyond the city limits and the stars are just waiting to be gazed at.

You don’t have to go far – just far enough where office buildings are nowhere to be found and the last street lamp was 20km ago as you exited the highway.

Grab your gear, find a spot in the bush, and look up. There's a starry show every night, and you've got the best seat in the house.

Or, if you want to see the stars in all their beauty we’ve rounded up some of the best star-gazing spots across the country.

Plus, we’ve found some apps and cheapie telescopes you can check out if you want to really geek out on the stars.

Ready to rediscover the stars?

Honestly, these spots are just the beginning of what Australia offers for adventurers looking to explore the stars in the night sky.

Best stargazing apps to use

There’s no right or wrong way to star-gaze. All you need to do is look up at the stars… and hey, you’re star-gazing! But there are apps out there that can make the experience even better.

  • Good to Stargaze: Guides you to the prime time for stargazing with a quick check of the weather details.
  • Light Pollution Map: Helps you escape the bright lights to where the stars shine brightest, with alerts for upcoming cosmic events.
  • MeteorActive: Offers a heads-up on meteor showers so you can catch every streak across the sky.
  • My Moon Phase: Keeps you in the loop with the moon's phases and the best light for your photos.
  • SkyView: Makes identifying stars and constellations as easy as pointing your phone at the night sky.

Get closer to the stars with a telescope

You also don’t need a telescope to star-gaze, but boy can they make the experience a million times more beautiful.

The good news is you can buy cheapie telescopes from Kmart and Amazon! Kmart sells telescopes for as cheap as $20 (find it here), and Amazon Australia has some great budget-friendly finds as well.

So, go forth and star-gaze, friends. Gazing up at the stars can change how you see the world, and you don't need anything but your own eyes.

With celestial love,
