An ode to summer’s sunrises and sunsets

An ode to summer’s sunrises and sunsets

6am. The sun creeps in through the blinds. Warmth fills your room as you throw back your sheets and gently open your eyes.

You kick yourself. You’ve missed today’s sunrise (again!) But that’s ok. There will be another one tomorrow.

And the next day.

And the day after that.

You smile to yourself. There’s always tomorrow.

And hey, you might have missed today’s sunrise, but you can still catch the sunset. So you set a reminder on your phone.

“Don’t forget to look up at the sky tonight.”

You go about your day. Swimming, surfing, cloud-watching, stuffing your face with ripe, juicy mangoes, hugging your friends with your sticky fingers as you walk arm in arm to your local fish and chips shop.

Sitting on the beach with salty hair and your best mates by your side, you couldn’t imagine a more perfect day.

And then, your phone dings.

“Don’t forget to look up at the sky tonight”.

Right on queue, the sky erupts in colours of pink, tangerine and bruised purple. It’s pure magic on earth, and it takes your breath away.

You can’t wipe the grin off your face.

As you head home to bed, you set your alarm for the morning.

5.30am.

Just in time to catch tomorrow’s sunrise.

If it’s been a while since you’ve caught a sunrise or sunset – we’ve got a challenge for you.

Whether it’s the beach or from a hill at your local park, or even just looking up from wherever you’re standing at the time, take a moment this week to watch the sun do its sky magic.

Whatever kind of day or week you’ve had, a beautiful sunset might be just the ticket to turn it all around.

And if not, well, there’s always tomorrow.

See ya where the sun meets the horizon,
